Journey of a Wood Stove |
||||
![]() |
This wood stove was a trade for a speedboat from Hornby Island. My friend and his wife have a lovely summer home there and because of some Finnish heritage in the family and a love of the sauna lifestyle they decided a future project would be a custom-built bathhouse. The top of this unit gets filled with river rocks and the inside firebox is lined entirely with one-and-a-quarter-inch-thick Brazilian soapstone. This allows the fire to develop extreme heat quickly. A stainless coil above the flame heats the water passing through for the wash-up. The door is a vintage Vancouver foundry product. |

| David and I are getting ready to load the stove onto his truck. There are two ferries ahead of us. | ![]() |

Notice the stove anchoring the Rube Goldberg tabletop to the bed. The dog is in there somewhere too I believe! |

When you travel to Hornby Island you must first attend Friday Night Jazz at the Dockside Bar and try some lox and bagels with cream cheese on one of the magical beaches you will find there. |

Here is a fantastic settler-style cook stove that David found in Idaho, I believe. It comes with a water jacket and is well suited for keeping his construction crews fed for a day of cabin building. |
